Frosty Hideout

A neighborhood trail with nothing spectacular. Stay on the main dirt roads, areas off them may be private property, you'll see a private property sign in one direction near the start.

Park in the big lot on Faith Lane, except on Sundays when the flea market will be using that. Walk to the gate at the end of the Faith Lane pavement and it becomes gravel and then dirt but continues to be labeled Faith Lane on maps. Tends to be flooded in a couple spots in winter and spring but you can usually make your way carefully around the water.

Avanti Trails

Room for a few cars to park in the half-circle just before the gate on Avanti.

Room for a few cars to park in the half-circle just before the gate on Avanti. 2 miles of bike trail and 0.75 miles (each way) of dirt trail up on the hill. You can make a loop by taking the bike trail about 1600 feet north, then turning right when you see the dirt trail option, then when you reach the end of the dirt trail on Royal Oaks head downhill to the bike trail and take it back to where you parked. Makes for a 1.5 mile loop.

Some nice views of the valley and hills, but zero shade. The bike trail part isn't particularly interesting and is close to Latrobe Road noise.

Blackstone Park Trails

From Blackstone Park, ascend the paved walkway to the street above, which is Keystone Drive.

From Blackstone Park, ascend the paved walkway to the street above, which is Keystone Drive. To your left on the far side of Keystone, about a hundred feet away, you'll see a marker for a 1 mile trail up into the hills. At the end of that trail you'll immediately see a half mile trail, so it's effectively 1.5 miles each way. If you instead go to the right on Keystone, you come to another trailhead heading up a steep hill for a half mile each way trail. In all, you should be able to find at least 4 miles out here. If you seek more, 0.9 mile walk on streets will get you to a mile long trail on the hillside next to Royal Oaks Dr above Avanti Dr.

These trails all offer beautiful views across the valley, to the downtown skyline and Mount Diablo, as well as some views of a nice little EID reservoir and a few interesting oaks. The down side is there's zero shade anywhere. If it's summer, you'll want to save this for a rare cloudy day. Best enjoyed in spring when it's all green and there's a little water in the numerous seasonal creeks they've placed bridges over.

Otter Creek Trail

Nothing technical about this, just a very steep hill that'll tire you.

Nothing technical about this, just a very steep hill that'll tire you. Trail starts (with no sign, just a ribbon on a tree) from the intersection of Breedlove and 4 Wheel Dr. This is pretty far down down dirt roads, so for normal vehicles it's easier to park near Dru Barner (there's a big parking area along Bottle Hill Road across the street from Dru Barner). No traffic on the dirt roads so they're effectively part of the hike.

Dru Barner trail starts just across from the kiosk where you pay the $3 day use fee. After about 6 miles it looks like it intersects with the Balderston loop. That in turn connects with Little Silver and Mar Det, so you can go forever.
